The president of the Castellers de Vilafranca, Jou Cabré, will be in charge of announcing the festivities of Sant Antoni Abat this Saturday in Martorell

This weekend the traditional festivities of the Three Tombs for Sant Antoni Abat will be held in Martorell. This year, the president of the Castellers de Vilafranca, Jou Cabré, will be in charge of making the proclamation, as a representative of one of the most important organizations in the country, according to the Friends of Sant Antoni Abat, association organizing the festivities . The proclamation will be on Saturday, January 10 in the afternoon in the Plaça de la Vila de Martorell. The event will begin, however, at half past 7 at Pont del Diable, from where it will leave to receive this year's crier at the Anoia portal. The festivities last all weekend, however.

The festival began in 1642 on the occasion of the establishment of the confraternity of Sant Antoni Abat, patron saint of carters and porters, and Sant Isidre, patron saint of farmers. During the French War (1808 – 1814), the festival stopped being celebrated, but in 1854 it was revived with the Three Tombs and the corresponding blessing of the cattle.

The Friends of Sant Antoni Abat is the organization organizing the events and has a heritage of carts and carriages of great historical value that reflect the agricultural and pastoral vitality of the Martorell economy. This organization has its origins in a commission created in 1968 and which, since then, has remained as Friends of Sant Antoni Abat and has managed to keep this centenary festival alive and up-to-date.
