Saint George's Cross

The Castellers de Vilafranca received the Creu de Sant Jordi in 1993, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia to natural or legal persons who, due to their merits, have provided outstanding services to Catalonia in defense of its identity or at the civic and cultural level.

Medal of the Village

In 1988, the Town Council of Vilafranca del Penedès awarded the Village Medal to the Castellers de Vilafranca.

Heritage of humanity

In 2010, the castells were inscribed by UNESCO on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Other recognitions

Castellers de Vilafranca, apart from the medal of the Town of Vilafranca del Penedès and the Cross of Sant Jordi from the Generalitat of Catalonia, have received other distinctions and recognitions during their history, some of which are mentioned below:

Lluís Esclassans, head of Colla dels Castellers de Vilafranca, was invested as an honorary brother by the Confraternity of Cava in 2006.

– Oriol Rossell, founder of the gang, received the lifetime achievement award granted by the magazine casTells in the framework of the II Night of Castles in 2008.

– In 2010, the Order of Friends of the Manneken-Pis in Brussels premiered the Casteller de Vilafranca costume.

– David Miret, head of Colla dels Castellers de Vilafranca (2008-2011) received the 'Català of the year 2010' award given by 'El Periódico' together with 'Els Matins de TV3'.

– David Miret received the 2010 Penedes award from the Penedès Business Association.

– During the Dahi Handi in Thane (India) in 2011, Castellers de Vilafranca received the prize for the 'best unloaded castle'.
