The artist from the Balearic Islands Marc Jesús pays tribute to the women of the gang as part of the 75th anniversary of the Castellers de Vilafranca
Coinciding with International Women's Day, Castellers de Vilafranca present the poster that Balearic Islands artist Marc Jesús has created to pay tribute to all the girls and women who form and have been part of the gang in their 75 years of history. The Castellers de Vilafranca are clear that they would not have achieved the castle milestones they have achieved, nor would they be where they are at the institutional level today, without the incorporation and active and decisive participation of women.

The entry of girls, women and women of all ages into the activity of the Castellers has been a determining factor in the revolution and the spectacular growth that we have seen in recent years, breaking topics, prejudices and, never again " glass ceilings". For this reason, the Greens wanted to recognize, claim and celebrate the decisive contribution of women to the gang, commissioning an original work from Marc Jesús, known as the "painter of blue women".

Currently, more than 30% of the members of Castellers de Vilafranca are women and this number continues to grow year after year. The group is ready for the moment when a woman, naturally, voluntarily and freely, takes the step of presenting her candidacy to occupy the position of president or head of the group.

Marc Jesús Vives (Eivissa 1966) is the painter of the blue women of Menorca, the island he arrived at when he was 18 to settle in Ciutadella. Women who are happy and daring, without fear of anything, who enjoy life. This is how they are painted by an artist who has made them a sign of identity. Marc Jesús came from a family where not only was he taught to paint, but art was lived. This passion took him to Ciutadella in 1984 to learn design and jewelery in Mahon. Knowledge that he expanded with more training in models, colors, computer design. The next step was in Pollença with master Platko, a lineage that speaks of a football legend of the 1920s, who taught him jewelry. And beyond Mallorca, more sea, more land. He traveled to the Caribbean, South America, Brazil, Colombia, the Amazon, Africa, Istanbul, Germany, France, Italy, etc. New cultures to discover and which helped him to outline a unique style. Since 1992 he has dedicated himself exclusively to painting and sculpture. Nowadays, its blue women have become an icon of the island of Menorca and of the Mediterranean by extension.

"Marc shows us the best face of life, clearly framed, seen with the lens of sensitivity where everything reflects ironic kindness and intelligence. His painting is like him. Cheerful, vital and serene." Joan Manuel Serrat
